Sketch of Boats in Florence, Oregon

While I am out of town, I try and sketch a little. Here are a couple of the drawings I was able to get done today.  Might try and do a painting of the boats. It was so interesting seeing all of the fishing boats on the Siuslaw River as I came into town yesterday.  It was a downpour and they were all out there in their rain gear, so many boats it looked like a waterway traffic jam.  They are fishing mostly for salmon and some trout.

This drawing was done from a coffee shop in the old section of town.

My friend and I went out to the Davis Family Farm where the owner kindly allowed us to paint and draw.  I started this painting which I finished in the studio.  They had absolutely gorgeous flower baskets and tons of fresh berries.

Below is my sketch for the painting.

The other day I asked if anyone had some high quality photos that I could use as references for my animal paintings.  I was absolutely thrilled when Katie Johnson generously came through for me with many wonderful photographs from which I could choose.  Check out her blog (click here) to see if you can find this gorgeous little boxer.  Here is another of her blogs.

Sketch for its own sake

I’ve take a few days off from painting but I’m still sketching.  It is a joy to sketch for its own sake.  So much of my drawing these days are plans for paintings so it is nice just to have fun with a scene that may never see paint!

I’ll be back painting by Friday.

The Vistas & Vineyards group went on location yesterday to a lavender farm. The lavender wasn’t quite in bloom, but I did find these calla lilies. I made many sketches of the vistas and flowers, and two painting starts including this one. The weather was pretty windy but the location was inspiring.

Okay, it was one of those rare sunny, warmish February days in Oregon and I played hookey and went outside.   I painted for much of the day, but didn’t finish my painting.  I thought you might enjoy the drawing I did two days ago of a wonderful model with whom I work  on an ongoing basis.

As always, thank you for visiting!

Ink Figure Drawing
by Carolee Clark

I spent the day at a “Model Marathon” at Hipbone Studios in Portland.  They have 9 models in 9 hours and it is a exhausting, wonderful day of drawing the figure.  While doing this drawing I was feeling good, the model was relaxed and professional.  She was comfortable, and obviously a favorite of the artists present.   I rarely sell my drawings as they are fodder for my paintings, however, because I spent the day drawing, I didn’t have a painting to share with you.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog.

Cheers, Carolee

One trouble I am running into these days is the short amount of daylight.  If I don’t finish my painting before 3:30 pm I cannot get a decent photograph!  So instead of the painting I was working on today, I have posted this study I did yesterday of a larger work that I am creating.

Daily “Drawing” in McMinnville, Oregon

by Carolee Clark

I am at the Watercolor Society of Oregon show and conference this weekend in McMinnville, Oregon.

Although I did do a “daily painting” today, I don’t want to post it until I get home Monday because I don’t trust the colors on this computer to be true to the painting.  So instead, I will post one of the drawings I did as I had lunch at the McMennamins Pub in downtown McMinnville.

Cheers!

“Sketch from the Clothesline Sale”

Thank you to everyone who came to see me at the Clothesline Sale, and especially to those of you who purchased my work!  It was a very successful day for me, I didn’t stop talking to those who stopped by and I sold a lot of artwork.  Thank you!

Sketches from da Vinci Days

These drawings were done of Laura, at da Vinci Days  in Corvallis Oregon.  Generally I don’t post my drawings because I take terrible photographs of them, but since I drew instead of painted today, thought I would share these .

Although I try and draw everyday, often it is a sketch of the painting I am planning.  It is wonderful to get in three concentrated hours of drawing!

I love to see dogs with their people.  They are always so happy, so eager and pleased to be on a walk.  This puppy was okay with waiting until his person had rested enough, but he sure had energy and desire to continue!
