A Peak into a Collector’s Home

Al & Linda Brown sent me photos of their new painting, “Growing Close,” hanging in their incredible home. They have a wonderful, contemporary art collection which includes paintings, glass, wood and other really fun pieces and I am thrilled to have my work added to it.

I had the opportunity to go into the Brown’s home recently and it was such a treat!  I kept turning around and seeing something else to touch and exclaim over.  What fun to fill your home with things that make you feel joyful!

This little hawk had just flown into my window.  I heard a loud thump and then saw a flash by the window.  She was sitting in the tree so I took a photo.

I was in Portland Oregon the other day and while at a stop light I grabbed my camera to take a photo of this woman and her dog.  Through the grimy windshield, too far away and worried about the traffic light changing … this is how I take many of my reference photos 🙂

For this lovely cocker spaniel, I worked from a photo from Li Goce.  She sent me a couple of wonderful images, so you might be seeing another one in the future.  I love the eyes on this dog!

I challenged the DWP artists to paint something that had a “Back to School” significance.  For me, often the beginning of the school year meant new starts … including a few new clothes in my closet.

This is the first “half of the painting that I did at a friend’s place the other week.  Each painting works well on its own, but they’ll work really well as a pair.  I’ll post the “other half” next time, but will post the sketch that I did on site. There is just one more thing that I want to do to the sister piece (isn’t that always the way it is?).

I had been thinking that I would do a diptych but did the sketches on two different pages (not too bright!), so the images don’t line up very well.  The paintings will line up better.

I was off to paint with a friend last week and I left with a quite a few minutes to spare.  I was enjoying the beautiful morning, with no hurried pressure like I so often experience.  Looking for other painting opportunities I came  across these huge sunflowers.   I pulled to the side of the road to get a few quick photos.

News:

As I will be preparing for two shows this spring 2014, I will be reducing the number of small paintings that I produce.  Hopefully, I will be able to complete at least one per week, but I need to concentrate on some larger works.   Please stay tuned!

News:

Well the Clothesline Sale was successful.  It was cold in the morning and I was bundled up with as many clothes as I had with me but by the end of the day it was 85 degrees and beautiful under the shade of the trees.

Thank you so much for coming by, chatting and buying my work!

This painting was done from a photo which was sent to me when I put out a call for good animal photos from which to paint.  When I saw this one I wanted to paint it right away.  What attitude!  The photographer does not want credit so I will leave her name out of it.  Thank you for the photo!
