I painted over a landscape painting to get this one and there is only a speck or two that is left of the original painting. I wanted to create beautiful color. As one of my friends likes to say, “I just wanted to push paint around.”

I am so excited to show you this next photo from Allison.  She and her husband, Khoi, just added one of my paintings to their collection and it looks fabulous!!  Allison plans on adding some burnt orange pillows which will add a pop of color on the sofa and help tie into the colors of the painting.  Look at how the lines of the curtain go with the lines of the sky in the painting.  It is such a warm, comfortable and happy room!  I’m thrilled that my painting found a beautiful home.

Our outdoor painting group “Vistas & Vineyards” has started up again with our annual trip to Garland Nursery in Corvallis, Oregon. There is always so much to choose from to paint here, but I settled on some pots of flowers and a steel bike “planter.” The temperature was cool but it felt great to be outside to paint again.

I continue to make a liar out of myself by painting flowers. Three weeks ago I stated in public that I don’t paint florals or still life because I’m not a gardener or a collector of things.  I think that I paint landscapes or figures like crazy for a while and then need a visual break and a different kind of challenge.  This must be my break.

I started sketching these flowers and came up with a decent composition.  First I started painting big white blossoms but it never wowed me.  I kept painting from the sketch and photo the first day, but when I came back to it the next day I put those away and concentrated on what was happening on the canvas.   Next I plan on doing a large canvas full of flowers!

Another very playful painting … Just having fun!  Last February I wrote a newsletter about naming paintings, its difficulty, necessity and process.  This one just popped into my head as I sat down at the computer to save it.  It is nice when this happens.

A month ago I had a tour of a friend’s garden and was awed at the transformation of her back yard into a peaceful oasis, complete with beautiful flowers, a pond and fish, blueberries and tomatoes.  It is obviously a labor of love.  These blueberries are from one of the photos I took.
