This is the first “half of the painting that I did at a friend’s place the other week.  Each painting works well on its own, but they’ll work really well as a pair.  I’ll post the “other half” next time, but will post the sketch that I did on site. There is just one more thing that I want to do to the sister piece (isn’t that always the way it is?).

I had been thinking that I would do a diptych but did the sketches on two different pages (not too bright!), so the images don’t line up very well.  The paintings will line up better.

Other News:
The Clothesline Sale of Art was very successful even though the temperature reached 100° which is rare here in the Willamette Valley.  I want to thank everyone who came to view my art, visit and purchase my paintings!  Below is a photo of the “clothesline” on which we display our work.  Not pictured is the large six painting easel where I display larger work.

 Update August 6, 2012

Here is the poster … I wasn’t expecting a long one … I like it.

This painting has a lot of texture, dry brush and layering of color.  It still has fairly simple shapes but the complexity is within the shapes themselves.  See detail below.  Makes a pretty darned nice abstract painting don’t you think? 🙂

Benton County Courthouse Lawn (120 NW 4th Street)

You might have noticed that I haven’t been producing as many paintings lately.  I continually change, rework, or paint over every painting that I create.  Because I have this “Clothesline Sale” coming up this Saturday, I am madly touching up and changing many of my paintings, both large and small.

There are over 60 artists with original work in acrylic, watercolor, pastel, oil, ink or graphite and photography.

I will have many of my daily paintings as well as some of my larger pieces for sale.  I’ll also have a couple of my sketchbooks there for you to check through.

Please stop by if you are in the area.  I’d love to see you.

To me walking alone in the forest is one of the most soothing, calming and refreshing things we can do.  It is almost as though the trees act as a sponge taking all of the stress out of one’s body.

Oops!

Boy did I mess up this one. I feel sick about it ….

I was busy working on this painting and have been for some time.  It was started about 5 years ago on site on Riverside Drive in Albany, OR.  I continued working on it yesterday and ran out of “Sap Green” so grabbed my large new tube.  I squeezed a good size dollop on my palete and tried mixing it.  It was awful!  It was sticky and didn’t mix well.  I knew that I wouldn’t buy that brand again … I didn’t even like the color as much as my old jar, plus it smelled really funny.   I pushed through … I can make it work!

This morning when I went back to continue working on the painting, I noticed that that pile of paint was still wet!!  Acrylic doesn’t stay wet over night.

Oh no … it was oil paint!!

You can paint oil over acrylic but not the other way around.  You can’t mix them in the same layer.  Acrylic paint is plastic based and dries right away.  Oil can take a very, very, very long time to dry properly.  With the different drying times, the paint will crack.

This means that even if I wasn’t finished with the painting (and I wasn’t) … I am now.  I will throw this ruined canvas out.  At least I got to share this story with you!
