I admire the work of Canadian artist Lawren Harris (1885-1970) and have occasionally tried to incorporate some of his style into my work.  This painting was done in response to a challenge by Gloria Zucaro to paint something in the style of an artist we admire.  See the DPW challenge by clicking here.

Below are a couple of examples of Lawren Harris’ work.  There is a very good book called “The Group of Seven and Tom Thomson” by David P. Silcox, published by Firefly Books Ltd. (2003) if you want to see more.

  1. I found your work while surfing landscape paintings. My personal favorites are the simpler condensation of shapes and colors. Not at all surprised to see you reference any member of the Group of Seven. Very strong pieces with a mix of experimentation and a touch of humor.

  2. I knew right away what you did! Great efforts as always and thanks for the tip on the book.
