“Drawing from Window of McMennamins”
by Carolee Clark
I am at the Watercolor Society of Oregon show and conference this weekend in McMinnville, Oregon.
Although I did do a “daily painting” today, I don’t want to post it until I get home Monday because I don’t trust the colors on this computer to be true to the painting. So instead, I will post one of the drawings I did as I had lunch at the McMennamins Pub in downtown McMinnville.
Cheers!

“Sketch from the Clothesline Sale”
Thank you to everyone who came to see me at the Clothesline Sale, and especially to those of you who purchased my work! It was a very successful day for me, I didn’t stop talking to those who stopped by and I sold a lot of artwork. Thank you!

These drawings were done of Laura, at da Vinci Days in Corvallis Oregon. Generally I don’t post my drawings because I take terrible photographs of them, but since I drew instead of painted today, thought I would share these .
Although I try and draw everyday, often it is a sketch of the painting I am planning. It is wonderful to get in three concentrated hours of drawing!

Does everyone have a friend that has a special talent for arranging interesting objects in wonderful arrangements around her house? I wouldn’t even know where to begin to do this. My house has clear counters and my desk and work bench are the only surfaces with things on them, so every time I see a house with creative arrangements I immediately want to whip out my sketchbook and draw.
Thank you to those of you who have this talent (you know who you are) and to those who allow me to draw the items!

I love to see dogs with their people. They are always so happy, so eager and pleased to be on a walk. This puppy was okay with waiting until his person had rested enough, but he sure had energy and desire to continue!

by Carolee Clark

Does an artist have enough of these moments? I know that I don’t. This looks so nice, a quiet moment, to sit, to think, to enjoy the silence.

It doesn’t have to be grama! I remember having a phone like this when I was a teenager, and spending hours using it to talk with friends. Now they are retro … you can buy them fitted to be a cell phone.

This is my second painting/sketch for the
Different Strokes challenge painting, and the one that I sent in to the site. We were challenged to draw or paint the sculpture from top to bottom. The premise being that artists need to know how to draw.
I too believe that drawing ability is very important. It is then one less obstacle in being able to create a painting the way you want to. There is less trepidation when starting a painting, if the artist knows that he/she can accurately render or distort, or play with the subject in a manner which allows their message to come across.
Although I don’t try to paint realistically, I do exercise my skills in drawing realistically. I always felt that it was important for me to be able to render something somewhat realistically first, then I could distort or abstract in a controlled manner, rather than by accident.

Since I dumped my black ink all over my board, my jeans and the floor, splashing this painting in the meantime, it looks like I’ll give this painting another go.
Cheers!

This is my first painting/sketch for the Different Strokes challenge painting. I plan on doing it again.
I’m not sure why the photograph came out with the blue/green cast, but I suppose it is appropriate since this is of a marble sculpture, 1724 (Jean-Louis Lemoyne).
